In 1949 Maurice Day began driving a delivery truck delivering fresh bread to the area farmers. Occasionally he would have a request for a cake or pie, which Doris happily made. Yes, that would make her Doris Day, but she is not the famous actress.
The thing that Doris became known for was baking Sticky Buns for the first day of school, as was a tradition in her house as a child.
Eventually the demand was such that Maurice and Doris opened their own bakery on Main Street in Honesdale on July 5th 1952, where it still remains today. The bakery is now operated by Edwin and Karen Day.
